Shelter-in-place orders complicated our ability to get together for a newborn session in April. Luckily shelter-in-place orders lifted and we were able to meet a few months later! We decided on a sunset session at Cesar Chavez Park and the Berkeley Marina in Berkeley, CA.
The park and marina offered open spaces and diverse natural backgrounds. Sometimes sessions in public spaces can leave us all feeling a little exposed, but this location offered some cozy, isolated spaces. This kept everyone feeling comfortable and confident during our session. Overall, this location turned out to be the perfect place to document their sweet daughter’s entrance into the world.
We began with the family of three resting on a blanket. I was able to capture the couple’s sweet cuddles and a few individual portraits while their daughter warmed up to the camera. The gorgeous sunset shining through the trees and across marina illuminated the love and exuberance that was already so obvious between these three.
The Berkeley Marina is known as a space for kite lovers, and luckily this couple’s little one loves kites! They brought their own kite, and climbed up the hill to let theirs fly while admiring others in the sky.
After a while, we walked to an area I call “the rock”. The sun bursting through the trees and shrubs while these three played together was icing on the cake. Swinging together, jumping off the rock, playing pretend… These parents were the best at getting their little one to giggle! And the sunset session was the perfect choice for this family!
We ended the session close to the water, capturing the sun as it set behind the Golden Gate Bridge and illuminated the sky. I was able to document their continued play of racing for hugs, tickles in the high grass, and of course… peekaboo! Their playfulness and authenticity throughout the session represented who these amazing people are as individuals, and as a family. It was an honor to capture the emotion, happiness, and pure love that sweet family shared.
